As you would expect from Smeg, the Smeg 50’s ECF01CRUK Coffee Machine is designed beautifully with its retro 50’s charm and pastel colour scheme. If you own other products in the Smeg ecosystem, like the matching kettle and toaster, then it seems like a no-brainer stylistically to choose this machine. However buying a coffee machine shouldn’t only a beauty contest, so does the device make excellent coffee as well?

The answer is yes! This machine is famous for producing high quality single or double espresso. With it’s simple control-scheme it gives you total control to dictate the quality of your drink. If you get high-quality fresh beans, grind them to an appropriate size and don’t back them in to tightly, the ECF01CRUK Coffee Machine will do the rest. It even lets you control the amount of espresso that comes out but holding down the button. It also remembers your setting, so get a consistent amount of coffee.

The steamer has a quality that rivals professional barista shops as well, making Lattes or Cappuccinos trivial to make. It’s high-pressure, and power is the key to whipping the milk into the style of your choosing.

Because the machine has such a minimalist design, it means it’s easy to clean as well. The descaling program as well makes it child’s play to keep the machine running and churning out those high-quality espressos.

Something else to consider about this machine is the price. This machine is a lot more expensive than most of its counterparts, and to be honest, it will do a lot of the same things. With Smeg, you know you will get fantastic build quality and are forced to pay a premium for that distinctive design aesthetic. I don’t think £320is too expensive for a machine that will last you for years and years, but it’ll be up to you whether you want to spend the extra money.
